Lip balms are easy and fun to make. Little girls love sweet flavored balms and big girls do too! Make them with a basic flavor or with no flavor for the men! Our base is not shiny and is excellent for your lips! A great "party favor" for your favorite girls birthday!
1. Scoop out the desired amount of base using a metal spoon and place it into a clean Pyrex measure cup. Melt this in the microwave using short bursts and stirring often to be sure it melts without overheating.
2. Add your desired flavor to your base. 6% flavor is what we recommend for a very strong, true flavor. This is 1 ounce of flavor per 16 weight ounces of base. To figure smaller amounts take the weight of your base in ounces like this 4.0 (four ounces of base by weight x .0625 (this comes out to adding an ounce to a pound) = .25 ounce flavor. You will need a digital scale to weigh your flavor and base for accuracy.
Pouring lip balms in to tubes can be tricky. I have found using a Dixie cup with the edge pinched works well, also using a small Pyrex (8 oz.) works well also and can be warmed up in the microwave between pours as needed. Also using a rubber band to hold the tubes close together works great! Pour the balms 3/4 full and allow to cool. Re-heat the base and top off once they have begun to cool and sink in the middle. Pour just to the point of being full and stop for the best results. This step is not necessary when using the pots.
Any left over lip balm can be re-heated and re-used. If it's already flavored, just store it in a mason jar with the lid on and label it for use next time. OR if you flavored the entire container, just screw the lid back on and scoop out what you need the next time!
As with all cosmetics, be sure to label them properly!
Instructions for use:
Lip Balm:
Just melt the base in the microwave on low until it liquefies completely. Add your flavor oil (not fragrance oil!) and stir well (amount depends on manufacturer, average use is 3-6% or 1/2 to 1oz per pound). Sweetener is optional with non-sweetened flavor oils or essential oils (our Kiss Kwenchers flavor oils are pre-sweetened ). Pour into lip balm tubes, tins or pots, and allow to harden.
Colorants: Mica work well in this base. This base is made from oil and water based colors will NOT mix.
Packaging: PET or HDPE plastic packaging is recommended for your finished product.
Storage: Store this product in it's original container tightly closed in a cool, dry, dark area .
Best Used By: One year from your date of purchase.
We recommend using a sharpie marker to date your stock once your receive it. Also be sure to rotate your stock with every shipment to use the oldest stock first.
