How To Make Body Butter
Make awesome creamy whipped body butters that sell like crazy! Easy to make and very profitable! These are great for dry, chapped skin!

You Will Need:

Recipe:

This recipe was shared by Laura Cox! Thanks Laura!
  • Approx. 60% Shea Butter
  • Approx. 40% Natural Oils(You can use any of our fixed/carrier oils like Soy, Sweet Almond, Grapeseed, Avocado, etc.).
  • Corn Starch (optional, but some feel it cuts down on the "greasy" feeling).
  • Any lotion safe fragrance oil, or you can use all natural essential oils instead if you prefer.
  • Mica Powders can be used to give the butter a little shimmer or color (optional).

  • Basic recipe for a one pound batch:
  • 10 oz. Shea Butter
  • 6 oz. Fixed Oils (you can use all one, or use 2 oz. each of 3 different oils)
  • 2 tsp. Corn Starch (can add more if desired)
  • .5 oz. fragrance oil (3% should be plenty, but you can add up to 1 oz for 6.25%)

Directions:

  1. In a large pyrex measuring bowl, melt your shea butter in a pan of water (double boiler method) on the stove. Once melted, add your oils, fragrance oil and corn starch. Stir very well.
  2. Remove the pyrex bowl and set it inside of a large metal bowl filled with ice water for a cold water bath. This will help cool the butter faster and is much easier than having to keep putting it in the freezer in between whipping.
  3. Using a hand mixer, whip the butter continually for several minutes just like you would frosting. It will begin to cool and as you keep mixing, it will start to look like whipped cream. Once the butter has solidified and has the right whipped texture (it will have peaks on top just like cool whip!), spoon it into your jars and you are finished!

Tips:

  • These butters look great packaged in our clear PET plastic oval jars! Clear labels look best on these! You can buy clear Avery labels at your local office supply store to print on your ink jet or laser printer.
  • You can also use the metal candle tins, but be aware that some fragrances may cause the tins to rust.
  • Try making a lickable body butter by replacing the fragrance oil with one of our Kiss Kwenchers Pre-Sweetened Flavor Oils! Note: Leave out the Mica Powder if making edible products as not all Micas are consumable.
  • You can call these Whipped Body Butters, Whipped Shea Butter, Whipped Body Cream, Body Frosting, Body Whips, etc! Shea Butter is a hot product on the market, so it's a good marketing tool to incorporate the word Shea. These butters have been sold in shops and on websites for around $4.00 per oz!
  • Our Homespun Sugar fragrance from BC South smells excellent in this recipe! Just like Cool Whip!
  • Be sure to include a label on the back, or a hang tag attached to the neck of the jar that includes the ingredients! This is a cosmetic, so you must list the ingredients in proper order and by their INCI name. We have the INCI names for all of our vegetable oils & butters & mica on our website. Here is an example of what your ingredient list should look like:
  • Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit, Glycine Soja (Soy) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Fragrance (or Flavor), Corn Starch, Tocopherol (Vitamin E).
