IGI 1239 is a 137 melt point straight paraffin wax suitable for making molded candles both pillar and votives. IGI 1239 is a refined paraffin wax that is very hard. This wax makes both excellent burning and smelling candles and will provide the user with a variety of appearances. Because straight paraffin waxes are completely customizable they are an excellent choice for almost any candle maker!

This wax will work well for making smooth, creamy candles as well as rustic and in some cases mottled candles. IGI 1239 will work for making pillar candles and votive candles.

Uses: IGI 1239 can be used to make Pillar Candles, Tea Light Candles and Votive Candles.
Fragrance Load:
Up to 6% is possible without additives. Up to 9% with proper additives.
Dye: Liquid, Chip, Block, Flake & Powder Dye can all be used in this wax
Wick Suggestions: Square Braid Cotton, Flat Braid Cotton, LX,
Wax Type: IGI 1239 is a Straight Paraffin
Additive Suggestion:
Vybar 103, Mottle Max or Steric Acid. You may also want to add UV Color Stabilizer to prevent fading and chemical color change.

Instructions for use:

Heat wax to 190-200. Once wax reaches desired temp, add your dye, blend well then add fragrance and again blend well. This wax should be poured between 185-195 into heated molds to minimize skip lines. It is advisable to poke relief holes around the wick of the candle once the wax has become solid but is still pliable.

After the first pour has cooled some, reheat your reserved wax from your first pour and refill the void (sink hole) in the candle until you reach the level of the first pour. You will want your second pour to be 10 hotter than your first pour to minimize lines from the second pour. Repeat the re-pour process as necessary. To make a rustic finished candle, do not heat the molds and pour the wax at 165.

To make a mottled/rustic candle, simply use the wax and no additives. To make a smooth opaque creamy looking candle add Vybar 103 at the rate of 1/2 tsp per lb of wax.

Adding additives like Stearic Acid, Gloss Poly, Mineral Oil etc will all create varied results. Experimentation to determine what works best for you will be necessary when using straight paraffin waxes. There is far more versatility in a straight paraffin than a production blend.

A MSDS for this product is available in a printable format here.

For testing purposes, we offer for sale, 10 pound slabs or bags of wax.

*We can only offer recommendations as to what wax will perhaps work best for you but we cannot guarantee any certain wax to work best in any application because of the many variables involved. The only way to determine the appropriate wax selection is by experimentation. Test burning will be necessary to determine the best wax for your candles!
